I don't want to get put under for the usual endoscopy, would much prefer the relatively new transnasal endoscopy. Anyone had one or found out where to get one?

Hi
the only transnasal endoscopy i'm aware of and had done was at an EarNoseThroat doctor to see larynx, pharynx and upper part of the esophagus.
I'm not sure they use that route (nasal) to see all the way down to the stomach and duodenum.
Why are you against the usual endoscope? i had it done. Was over befor i could say pickles!.But they do give you a sedative. My 70 year old godmother had it done too.
The only way for you to find out for sure is ,yess, to make that undesirable appointment with an enterologist and ask him .Goodluck

I've had my share of real ones, and due to convenience/cost I'd like to get a transnasal. I mean, if it is just to check for Barrett's, I would think that would be the most economical way. I am still unsure as to why transnasal has not replaced the usual endoscopy yet? perhaps it is harder to use for a Dr. (I've read that it takes 3-5 minutes, whereas a regular one takes significantly longer).

I don't get why it hasn't replaced the regular endoscopy yet though. When you read about it, it has a lot of benefits, especially in cost effectiveness. I would think Dr's would care about that since they say endoscopy is overutilized and costly...

Oh wait, its probably because hospitals have their bread and butter with the usual endoscopy procedure and have no reason to change just for the patient's benefit...
