My son recently got diagnosed with Barrett's he is 12 yrs old . The dr put him on nexium 2 a day. I know that nexium takes the calcium out of the body I asked his Gi dr about him taking calcium and he said no . This doesn't make any since to me since he is so active and young I would think he would need to take calcium does anyone have any advice for me regarding this.?

I think the calcium worry is when your son has been taking them long term as he has only just started I don't think it is an issue in their eyes. Barrett's versus ppi, I think ppi win. However if you think it is an issue then feed your son more calcium based foods within moderation, everything excessive is bad.

If you click on the link you will find calcium rich foods which i am sure he will enjoy.

I agree it's long term use that causes calcium up take issues, but a multi vitamin that has calcium might be a good idea for a growing boy.

Take care,
