I developed reflux back in 2000. Since then I have:
Been on PPIs
Had a successful fundoplication which lasted for about 4 years
Resumed PPIs
Recently added Gaviscon Advance and an OTC H2 antagonist to gain some relief from LPR.
I also take a liquid iron and B12 supplement to counter the impact of these medications.

I think I'm correct in saying that 50 years ago none of these treatments would have been available. Although the incidence of GERD (GORD if you're in the UK) has risen tremendously in recent years, very many people must still have suffered from reflux half a century ago. Apart from calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and charcoal how did people find any relief? If my current regime were withdrawn I know that I would be back to where I was fourteen years ago, lying in a foetal position wondering what had hit me! So, did people just suffer dreadfully, or did some find a solution that made life tolerable?
