I was diagonised with gerd three years ago also had an mri of my neck around the same time due ro a herniated disc they found a thyroid nodule. The doctor did a fine needle biopsy and could not get enough she said we can take out the thyroid to see if it is cancer. I asked if we could watch it didnt feel like losing my thyroid. So we have been watching it nothing has changed except a couple more nodules have appeared. Tsh tests are normal. However i recently a month ago had a severe case of gerd, lump in back of throat, back left flank pain, chest pain which is what i always get This time i also have neck pain right and left side front of neck, ear pain both ears. My MD said since ive been on omeprazole for three years it may have stopped working so he put me on protonix. Ive been on it two days and chest pain stopped but still all the neck and ear issues and back flank pain. I asked him if he thougjt this could be symptoms of my thyroid telling me something. Does anyone know if possible cancerous nodules mimic this type of gerd also?

Welcome, joeyjo. I'm no moderator, but you made two threads. It makes it easier for us to help you if everything is in one. :)

My knowledge of thyroids is minimal at best, but it's not uncommon to switch PPIs. However, PPIs in the long-term can also do some harm.

I initially thought I was having heart trouble, but it turned out to be the result of GERD. I had EKGs and such, but nothing was found to be wrong with my heart. Endoscopy revealed problems.

I'm not sure how helpful this is, but I hope it's of some benefit. I do know someone with thyroid issues and will talk to them if it helps. I'm mad at her, but I'll do it anyway. lol

I wouldn't fool around with the thyroid. I worked for a doctor who had a lump, let it go, and it killed him. Maybe do some more research. There's a thyroid forum here.

Have you had any cancer marker blood tests? I don't know much about it, but my housekeeper had her thyroid partly? all? removed and lives a good life. Hers was cancerous and she had to get blood tests for 5 years. I don't think Tsh tests for cancer.

It's entirely possible that you have two problems. Maybe seeing a gastroenterologist will help you figure it out.
