I know this is something I need to go over with my doctor, but she recommended that I also get a barium swallow before I meet with her due to abnormal readings in my motility results. So I have no one to turn to but here, and hoping someone had some similar experience with their issue. Or know how to read the results..
I have written results but I can't interpret from head to tails with my motility exam. The 24-PH seems easy to read. I probably need to wait 3 weeks after my barium to know what's fully going on...because getting a hold of my doctor is tough to talk about my results; I could make an appointment with a nurse, but I'm not sure if I would get the answers I need (but I may need to do that if I have to wait another 3 months to see the doctor). Its tough getting hold of the doctor, since I'm doing this at a academic hospital--didn't think prices could be this expensive w/o insurance too (glad, my insurance covers most of the the costs).
Any how--my 24-ph turns out to be negative...very normal? =( maybe it should be =)
- DeMeester Score for distal probe: 2.2 (normal < 14.7).
Impression: - Normal ambulatory esophageal impedance-pH study.
But something is burning me, because my last 2 endoscopes I had strictures + gastritis (first endoscopy). My latest one I was clean, but I think this is due to the gaviscon I kept taking everyday, but I still feel discomfort in my stomach area. Maybe, the acid did not hit catheter? is that even possible?
Next is my motility results, where my issues lie
LOWER ESOPHAGEAL SPHINCTER (LES): (copying the abnormal stuff)
- LES residual pressure: 15.0 mmHg (Normal < 15). LES relaxation:
incomplete.
- %LES relaxation: 18% (Normal > 40%)
ESOPHAGEAL BODY (peristaltic contractions): 10 wet swallows
- Peristalsis: 80% Normal.
- Abnormal waves: 20% failed
- Propagation velocity: 4.7 cm /s (Normal <6.25 cm per second)
- Distal contractile integra (DCI): Mean: 922 mmHg-cm-s; Range: 604 to
1245 (Normal: 500-5000)
- Intrabolus press: Mean: 7.3 mmHg (Normal < 8.4); Highest: 23.1 mmHg
(Normal < 17.0)
- UES relaxation: incomplete (residual pressure: 23.9 mmHg).
If anyone can read the results, does it mean my LES is opening at wrong times..or just really weak?? I never knew I even had problem with my UES until the results..I don't think it bothers me. And does that mean my swallowing (strength) is normal besides the LES/UES issues haha. Can I even qualify for Linx surgery with UES issue, if my swallowing is normal? This is all so confusing and making me paranoid =[
