Just noticed on amazon that Dr. Koufman had a new book come out feb of 2014 about Chronic Cough. Just wondering if anyone has read it, and if it contains any new info (especially related to LPR) versus the Dropping Acid book.

thanks, diana

I skimmed through it while I was waiting in her office. It didn't really seem like there is anything different in it, as far as LPR. I suffer from chronic cough for over 30 years and boy do I wish  she wrote that book then. She has diagnosed me 2 years ago, not only with LPR, but with a neurogenic cough, due to vagus nerve damage. That the book addresses, as well as LPR. Since I am a patient of hers, the book didn't benefit me, but just reading her 1st page, I thought she wrote it specifically for me.  To me the book is great, for someone that has been suffering with  chronic cough and have been to many  doctors who couldn't diagnose them  properly, therefore didn't treat them  properly.

tori-ann, thanks for your reply. Are you on her diet program and is it helping you? did you get the vagus nerve damage from the reflux? I just saw my gastro-doc yesterday, and he told me he's unfamiliar with LPR, yikes, he doesn't even know about it, how is that possible?

e seemed to think my symptoms of it reaching my larynx/pharynx/sinuses, and possibly airways, were improbable. didn't seem interested in learning about it either. guess it's time to look for an ENT doc.

I am on her diet program and so is my husband. It works wonders for him, along with the medication, for me it is not as successful. I definetly get some relief but I am going to have the Nissen surgery in July.
At least your doctor admitted not knowing about it, not like most. An ENT should be the doctor that diagnosis LPR and treats it, but all are not familiar with it either. I had gone to 2-3 ENTs and they all kept tell me sinusitis, allergies, even though none of the medication was working for me.
As far as the Vagus Nerve damage, not sure how I got it , usually comes from a bad bout of bronchiits. The only thing that Dr. Koufman can tell from the test that I have at it at lease 5 years. I am sure it is a lot longer.

It sounds like Dr. Koufman thinks the Nissen will help your LPR. I've read mixed reports but I guess that's true with the Nissen and GERD too. I really hope it helps you, I imagine that's the path I may have to take too versus just trying to manage it but continually causing myself more damage.

Which test did you do that gave the 5 year result, was it the impedence probe? I'm glad that the diet is at least helping your husband, wonder why it helps some and not others...I guess we're all different.

No, the Impedence probe is to test for reflux. I am not sure of of the name of the test, but it consisted of her sticking needles in my neck. It sounds worse than it is, it wasn't bad at all. You just feel a little pinch.
