Sorry to hear you're having symptoms. I had my surgery because of the effects of reflux on my asthmatic lungs. I never had high numbers on my DeMeester score, but a few good reflux episodes a day/night can create havoc.
If the head of your bed is elevated 7-8 inches, the only other option would be sleeping in a recliner, where you can achieve a nearly upright position. It's not ideal, and I've never done it (don't even own a recliner), but I know it has worked for some.
I know it's a long shot, but your symptoms also sound like allergy. The pollen season has been brutal, and you could get those symptoms from pollen exposure. Do you have your bedroom windows open at night? Just a thought.
Hope you feel better soon!
