Constantly in pain in my upper abdonem and can't seem to shift it. I am
Currently on 30 mg of lansaprazole twice a day ranitidine 75mg twice a day and I am on a bland diet which is also a killer. I am also taking aloe vera and slippery elm and drinkin coconut water which I've heard helps. I'm losing hope I want my life back :(. I was on a long course of anti bitoics after having my appendix out and goin though complications I was on about 4 diff anti
Biotics for around a month and this is what docs think have caused it. I'm off work and can't seem to want to go on with life anymore. Docs tell me it takes a long time for stomach to heal
But I'm at wits end ! Someone help???? :,,,(

Sorry your having a hard time, I'm about 2 months into my bout of "gastritis" and its only just started to ease. My dr put me on Elavil a few weeks ago and it seems to be helping, as my stomach is overly sensitive. I've been having PepZin GI as well which I read was good.

I'd be careful about the Aloe Vera, I tried some of that and it burnt my stomach pretty bad. I've also put it on sunburn before and it stinged like hell, it might be irritating to you too.

Have you tried some pro-biotics? They are usually a good idea after a big course of antibiotics

I've had pro biotic yogurts to help. Its just so uncomfortable and I'm scared it won't ever go. I really want to eat normal again and have chocolate but I don't want to attempt to try it till I feel better. What caused your gastritis? Are you confident you will recover? Docs told me it takes time for stomach to heal.

Welcome to the forum, Jade.

Maybe you need to change your PPI. I found that only 2 helped me, and Prevacid was not one of them. If you're using an OTC, it's not prescription strength.

Taking the PPI correctly is also important. You have to take it in the morning half an hour to an hour before eating, and then you have to eat. It takes 45 minutes for most meds to get into your blood stream and then be metabolized into the form that's useful. Then it has to get to the outside of the stomach and turn off the little acid "pumps." The acid pumps need to be turned on by eating food in order for them to get turned off, so you have to eat.

Bland diet may not have anything to do with your problem. It wasn't my problem. Keep a food journal - use the search box to read many posts.

Abdominal pain may be from gas caused by overload of bad bacteria like C. diff. Your good bacteria were wiped out by the antibiotics. They should have had you on probiotics while taking antibiotics. Taking probiotics might help.

I avoid alternative treatments. They aren't standardized or tested like medicines. Even the probiotics aren't standard. I had to try several, not the cheapest, to find one that worked for me.

Not to be insensitive, but please don't make comments like in your title. They're not allowed on this family forum. We do care very much that you're in so much pain. Maybe your doctor could give you something to help with that. I totally can sympathize with you because I've had several bouts of bad gut infections and surgeries, including needing a colostomy. It's not fun! I very sincerely hope you can get a resolution for this.

My gastritis was initially set off by half a tub of triple chocolate ice cream, but wasn't too bad until I ate some cucumber, then it got awful. Its only then I realised that raw veg, especially cucumber is very bad for gastritis.

I've had gastritis in the past, but never for this long. it does indeed take forever to heal. Last time I had it I had been ok for a month, had a glass a coke, and then the morning after it had flared up again!

Hi Jade just to any I know how you feel - I'm currently suffering intermittent gastritis and oesophageal pain which started at Easter and has ruined my life for the last 10 weeks or so! Thought it was getting better but just keeps flaring up with no obvious trigger although ( see previous post) I too had a bout of oesophageal pain which lasted for approx 4 hours after I ate an ice cream on a hot day last Monday- then 'fine' ( but never completely as before) but acted up again today so off to Dr in the morning which I'm dreading as when I tell her and that I've lost some weight she will no doubt send me for the dreaded endoscopy which I have a real phobia for.
It is a horrible thing and makes you feel washed out and ill and as if you will never be normal again- this forum really helps though as there are so many people who understand what we are going through- and sometimes make us realise that some people have it worse than ourselves.
Hope you feel better soon x

Try L glutamine, it did wonders for my gastritis, but it takes a while to see results, and may not work for everyone, but do know that in Japan its a prescribed treatment for Gastritis and stomach ulcers.
L glutamine is your stomach linings preferred nutritient for maintenance and repair of the lining.

All the best.

I've been in a similar boat, albeit on darker shores, for over 3 years now, and I know how you feel. I've talked with my girlfriend about what happens if this doesn't get better for me soon, and it's a very, very surreal experience to have that conversation.

That said, I think the best advice you'll receive is to find a good, reputable gastroenterologist and have some tests done if it persists. There are a lot of options that can be explored and, if nothing else, there are a lot of possible medications that are prescribed for these sorts of things. I'd recommend keeping a log of your symptoms and diet for a few days before seeing a gastro doctor and then you can go in well-prepared and ease the process.

I had a virus (like a stomach virus) with the whole nine yards of yuuckk, including vomiting, diaherria, belching, sore throat, belching so much my breathing was affected....muscle pains, etc. Since I am an asthmatic and have been for over thirty years, I did not want to see anybody.

Turns out I came down with a bit of Barrett's and now have to have it monitored. So you have to follow up. Small meals are the best with no eating at bedtime.

Take care

I've been suffering with chronic gerd for about 10 years now, my PPI's have stopped working. I know how awful you feel. I'm sorry you've joined the ranks of the suffering, but don't give up, I did have many months of pain free existance, now I simply need surgery I'm thinking at this point. Have you had a scope done? I have one scheduled soon, and I'm scared right now and tired of the pain as well.

Thanks for all your sympathetic replies- and firelight glow you sound very much like my position. No I haven't had scope yet - my gp is going to give me 4 weeks on 40 to see if it does settle it down before referring me for one-?Im terrified of having it so hope it will- but frankly can't see it now given how long it's been. The ultrasound for gallstones won't happen for approx 6 weeks which is an awful long time to wait- have you ever been tested for then? The symptoms are so similar I was shocked - that could be why your PPIs 'aren't working'- they may be actually
Take care my thoughts are with you- let me know how you get on with the scope
