Hi Everyone!

I've never posted in a forum before, but I see so many of you are going through the same thing that I am, and felt compelled to reach out to like-minded folks.

I am currently a 30 year old female, and was diagnosed with GERD in 2008, after being under extreme stress, developing frightening chest pains, and heart tests came back normal. I stayed on Protonix for about 3 months, and from then on, maintained my heartburn and reflux with OTC meds as needed (which is about twice a week).

Here I am 6 years later, under extreme stress again (mother recently diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer, and is now living with my husband and I, and our 3 year-old). about 2 weeks ago, I started to notice the small flutters in the left side of my chest, but thought nothing of it. It has gradually progressed to the point where I'm afraid I'll drop dead any second from heart failure. The pain that had first started just behind my left breast has now spread to my back, armpit, and about an inch below my breast. There's a constant pressure, and it hurts like Hades when I cough or sneeze. And just forget about taking a deep breath! I've also been dizzy, had headaches, pounding heart (anxiety, much?) and am starting to feel depressed. If I'm not complaining about constantly burping, it's only because I've had to stop to burp. I've seen 2 walk-in clinic Dr.'s, as my primary physician is booked until next week. They've both sent me home after telling me to pick up some Zantac and call my primary. Thanks a bunch, Doc!

I started Prilosec yesterday, and last night was the first good night's sleep I've had in a couple of weeks. I felt like someone had lifted an elephant off of my chest, and it actually didn't feel like my heart was trying to escape my body. about an hour after I woke up this morning, the pain was back. I've been very dizzy-feeling for the last couple of days, and I'm not sure if it's from the Prilosec, or the fact that I'm constantly hyperventilating from not being able to complete a breath. The only way to get any relief from the chest pain is to walk around for a bit.

I'm curious to know if any of you have suggestions for a quick fix that might help, while I wait for the Prilosec to really start working. I have an appointment with my Dr. next week, but I feel like I might lose my mind before then. The anxiety is eating me up, and making me feel much worse than I actually have to. I've already altered my diet accordingly (probably why I'm depressed...haha!), and am wondering about other OTC meds that could be taken in conjunction with the Prilosec. It obviously isn't going to last for the full 24 hours that it promises. Maybe I just needed to vent.

Anyone have any positive suggestions or kind words for a woman who's about to pull her hair out? :-)
