I have been taking Nexium for a year for GERD. In the past 2 months I have become nauseated, exhausted, anxious, no appetite . I have had all the tests available and am fine according to them. I have determined that the nexium itself is causing my symptoms. My dr. Prescribed a probiotic last week which initially helped quell the nausea. Now it is back. Has anyone successfully weaned themselves from Nexium? I can't believe this nightmare. I never had a problem with my digestion at all until I took 4 years of pain killers for a back issue. Now I am off those pills but feel that the nexium is killing me. Any good news out there?

I am in a similar situation to you, the reason for this is that i was misdiagnosed and given round after round of steroids and antibiotics to treat my asthma. It ruined my stomach and made my asthma horrendous. The ppi they gave has made me even worse.

I can't stress enough, that you MUST come off this medication slowly and very slowly. The longer the tapering dose the better. Unfortunately because of the hell the pi side effects caused me I must come off them suddenly and they flare my gastritis back up. I had no choice, it was either loose my gallbladder or flared up gastritis, its 4 days i am odd the tablets and my stomach and nausea are hell but its i may physically not feel better but my mind/spirit psychologically is 10000% better, now i will try cure my gastritis naturally. The ppi are nothing but evil drugs for some and godsend for others. They reeked havoc with my nerves, and made my life living misery, i could not sit or stand for longer than 10min at a time because of them and doctors would just say its impossible,, since dropping the tablets, i can sit and stand. It has made me appreciate been able to sit and stand. I feel great in one way but not in another.

You could try another ppi. If you had acid reflux because of gastritis then in one year you should of been healed, did you perform endoscopy to confirm gastritis?

If you have no gastritis and only GERD, this could be because of loose lower oesophageal valve. You can try coming off then and see how your reflux responds. Dont forget you can actually have silent reflux as was my case for a while.

from reading online from most people who came off ppi for herd, some could not but the most success stories or tolerable reflux was with those who tapered slowly to lower dose or off completely.

do you have nexium tablets? a blue pack made by Astor Zenica? if yes them you can actually cut the tablet into what dose reduction you like and then dissolve it in water and drink it on empty stomach. I would drink 2 glasses before taking the tablets wait 10 min and then drink the tablets dissolved in water with 2 cups again.

good luck.

Thank you so much for answering me. I feel so trapped and alone with this. My husband is so tired of me being sick all the time and I don't blame him. Do you have energy and no nausea yet? Thanks, Meg
