Hi, First time posting here...I am unsure as to whether I have GERD, or something more serious, like heart problems. I am in the process of figuring things out, but I wondered if any of you good people ever feel breathless after slight exercise with GERD. Also I don't seem to have heartburn that much, just occasionally, but I do seem to have a strange soreness in my tummy that goes up into my esophagus and ends in my throat, its hard for me to describe the sensation which seems to be permanently in my throat, its like a kind of pressure or slight soreness...I also seem to have a slight upset tummy all the time at the moment...any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds like what i am currently going through.

I had two separate doctors take my blood pressure and listen to my heart as well as on ECG. They told me everything in my heart area is fine.

I understand your anxiousness but it's probably GERD. Of course get it checked by a doctor. I read a website somewhere online describing the differences in chest pains and How GERD is more of a surface chest pain. Where as heart attacks etc are a deep chest pain.

The lump in your throat makes you think you are having trouble breathing even though you are not? I spent today in work running up and down stairs to test myself. I was slightly breathless after two staircases. But that's normal for me. Still I took my heart rate at least 8 times today. Then I carried home about 12kg on my back and 5 in each arm (shopping) and made it home fine.

Long story short, your symptoms and worries sound like mine.

I too will sometimes get breathless after walking or it will feel like something heavy is sitting on my chest, especially when it's humid outside. I was diagnosed with GERD about a month ago and when I told my doctor about my breathing problems, which started happening a few months after I started developing a more acid feeling coming up, he didn't seem concerned at all. I've had my lungs and heart checked, everything was fine. I even posted about this a few days ago, but no one replied. I did some digging on this forum though and I found a few people talking about the same issue and that sometimes the acid fumes or even the acid can leak into your lungs, which can cause damage, I researched it more, and sometimes, not always (so don't worry), it can cause lung cancer, but that's if it gets serious enough. It made sense to me, acid isn't good, unless it stays in your stomach.

Your symptoms are like me, I get a weird feeling from my stomach to my throat, and sometimes I will even get mild chest pains, which my doctor said was usual with some patients with GERD. If you are worried, make an appointment with your doctor, and talk to him/her about what you're feeling and if it could be GERD. There's millions of people that have it, so even if you do, don't feel like you're the only one.

Thank you both for taking the time to answer..I am seeing a doc tomorrow regarding this, and hopefully I will have some clear answers soon. I don't feel like I have a lump in my throat exactly, but I am aware of my throat, whereas normally I wouldn't be..if that makes any sense.
