It's been 18 months since I have had the nissen surgery. I suffered for years prior to the surgery with acid reflux and indigestion. I tried all the usually, nexium, Zantac, dexilant, etc. nothing worked and I started to lose weight.

After years of giving me meds my doctor referred me to my surgeon. Anyway, it has been a tough 18 months, I have lost 10 pounds since the surgery and have lost my appitetie. I did not feel the sensation of hunger for almost 8 months after the surgery.

Right now I am eating about 1500 calories a day, most of that is from cookies and light foods as bread and cereals still cause problems. I cannot digest raw foods or fruits. Still cannot drink pop, the surgeon said that I would be back on pop in 6 months, this has happened.

The problem is that I cannot burp. I get so much gas and bloating. It's driving me crazy. My theory is that with all that gas in my stomach my brain thinks that I am full and hence the lack of appitetie.

Also, I still have to take pepto bis oil, Zantac whenever I eat a trigger food, although the acid does not come up, I can feel the acid heat in my stomach.

After day 3 of my surgery I develop led diarrhea and still trying to deal with it.

My surgeon has done every test under the sun pretty much and says that there is nothing wrong with my insides. He has since referred me to another doctor for a second opinion. I am still waiting for this appointment.

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

I have gad so bad that I chew gas x all day every day. I hope it's going to get better for us both but is this the same surgery u had.

Hi, BrunoG.

I had my surgery on april 15 of this year.

I have the same problem as you in that I get bloated from drinking pop or whatever else, and I have no appetite after eating only a little bit of food.

The key is learning your body and how it reacts to different foods and liquids. I would recommend eating without liquids and only drinking after your meals. It will suck, but it is important that you eat solid meals that fill you up, and provide the necessary nutrients for your body to thrive. If you create a regular meal schedule (4-5 small meals/day at certain times) your appetite should return. Keep in mind that you will probably have to give up pop and other foods that cause bloating, or enjoy them occasionally. There are trade offs and drawbacks, but also plusses to changing your diet.

Good luck!
