I am relatively new, so thanks in advance for replies and help!

I am a 23 yr old female, with a pretty healthy lifestyle, don't drink or smoke, but have extreme nausea, mainly at night. The past few weeks, it's been unbearable to the point where I am up all night long.

I went to the doc today, who was treating me for multiple things, but looked in my throat and said he saw " acid damage" that I need to be pretty careful. He's put me on 40mg of Omeprazole once a day, and he thinks I may have the beginnings of an ulcer so gave me something to help coat my stomach.

I try not to eat things that I know are triggers for heartburn, but I sometimes do in moderation, sometimes it's fine, and sometimes they bother me with a vengeance.

Sometimes I feel actual heartburn and most of the time, it's like it's "silent" with symptoms of not being able to burp, the feeling of trapped gas or things " rising" and not being able to burp or relieve it, whilst eating, the feeling of food being stuck in esophagus, and really bad nausea, and tightness in the throat.

And recently I've been dealing with sinus issues and post nasal drip, which I know can be related to GERD but I struggle to see how?

Does anyone else suffer from this feeling predominantly? what have you done to help it?

Welcome to the forum sten4556. My main symptom of acid reflux is nausea. I know that soda makes acid reflux worse, but it helps me burp and that relieves some of the nausea but i wouldn't recommend to do it a lot. Most of the time i take Tums or Mylanta. The soda to help you burp may help.

Hi there,

Yes nausea was my main symptom when my reflux problems first began, morning nausea in particular. Things that have helped my nausea are:-

1) Acupunture
2) The herb milk thistle
3) Chewing DGL as soon as I get up
4) Peppermint sweets

I think for some people peppermint tea helps, but I can't tolerate any kind of tea, which may be due to the little bit of gastritis I have. In addition to the above, I have the head of the bed raised and do not eat or drink for a couple of hours before lying down to sleep.

The other thing that made a difference, but goes somewhat against standard advice, was to take my anti-acid medication late evening. Taking the ppi first thing in the morning seem to leave me exposed just at the worst point of the day! I'm now on Zantac, split dose, morning and night, as had problems with ppi side effects.

Hope that helps some.
