I had Nissen Fundoplication surgery almost two years ago as a result of years of GERD, Hiatal hernia and grade C esophagitis. I am severely allergic to Proton Pump Inhibitors so none of the available meds reduced my symptoms and surgery was the only option for significant relief. My surgery was performed with laparascope and I went home from the hospital the following day. I was on a liquid, then soft, then modified diet for a total of about six weeks. I had none of the issues with difficulty swallowing, gas or pain that some patients experience. I lost 17 pounds in the process.
I felt great for the first year then my symptoms returned. I've gone thru the entire battery of tests and learned that my original wrap has failed. I'm scheduled for repair surgery in two weeks. I will post after the surgery with hope that others may learn from my experience.
