Hi everyone. I wanted to write in this forum because I've seen so many bad experiences after surgery. I am 5'2 and at time of surgery weighed 140 pound. I have been suffering from G.E.R.D for over 14 years. Change of diet and medicines never worked for me. My acid was so bad at night when I slept that it would come up my nose. So I finally decided to go ahead with the surgery. Dr. Pulatt at MUSC hospital is who processed my surgery on August 6 2014. My surgery took about an hour and my stay at the hospital was only two days. The day after surgery I was able to drink my veggie broth, apple juice and have some jello. I was on a liquid diet for two weeks and I walked moderately for 15 min. No acid came up at all during those two weeks. I had mild heart burn and nausea. Dr. Put me on a ppi, nexium, Pepcid, gas x. He said this would only be for a while until my wrap heals. Well I had an accident, I thought I had chewed my food throughly and it got stuck which caused immense pain and then vomiting. Please , please, please follow d.r diet. I was so scared I had messed up my wrap so my mom took me to the e.r. Thank god wrap was good. Well the day after the visit to the e.r I noticed that every time I drank or ate it hurt so bad, so I made an appointment to see my dr. It took 5 days to see him and I had not eatin in those five days. When he saw me he immediately Admitted me into the hospital for an indoscopy to find out what was going on. Well the vomiting irritated my esophugus to the point where it wasn't letting liquids through so the doctors dilated my esophugus with a camera and now I am able to eat and drink only soft food until I see the doctor again on the 11th. Post op demands patience. Slowly I know I will get to where I want to be. I will keep you all updated hopefully weekly. My only complaint is gas but I have noticed that if I take beano instead of gas x before foods I don't have much discomfort.
