Hi everyone,

I took a hiatus for a bit. Lots has happened but doing well again. Had my HH/NF Feb 28/14 so 6 1/2 months post op now. Some may remember me. Quick reminder: I couldn't eat and landed back in hospital about 1 week post op for pain. No definitive answers. Was on liquids for 7 weeks. Lost 38 lbs. just never got back to feeling really well again. Well turns out my Gallbladder went sour. Started having major gallbladder attacks in May. Landed in hospital a few times. Most I rode out at home. Unfortunately it caused repeated vomiting episodes and dry heaving. Have had a return of some symptoms. Still much better than prior to surgery. Continued to get sicker until finally had gallbladder out July 24th. It was like a miracle. The next day I felt immediately better.

Way less bloating and pain. I blamed it on my HH/NF but it was only part to blame. I felt like a new woman! People now tell me how good I look and how the spark is back in my eyes. Of course they didn't tell me how bad I looked prior. Lol. So then surgeon concerned due to return of symptoms. Had barium swallow before gallbladder surgery and things good. Food hung up at wrap site but that's to be expected. I do have more trouble swallowing but that's my upper throat. I can live with that. Had endoscopy 2 days ago and everything intact. No new hernia. No need for more surgery. Very happy. Wrap loosened some from the vomiting though.

My surgeon retires Oct 1 so feel lost. I'm sad to see him go. I wrote him a thank you letter with a small gift. He's been amazing. So now I've been referred to a again doctor he wants me to see and be followed by. He wants a Manometry and pH test in a couple months. First I have to resort back to earlier post op eating habits. Back to softer foods, no talking when I eat, eat slow, graze only no meals, etc. back on PPI's for a couple months and Domperidone with 1 at bedtime too. This is to try and combat my reflux, regurgitation, nausea and chest pain.

Chest pains daily and almost all day now. Surgeon feels it's spasms. I disagreed but now wondering. Yesterday I ate very little and used heat and it helped. Today as soon as I drink the pain starts. Cardio makes it much worse. I thought some of this was gallbladder but now that that pain is gone ( I had daily pain and almost daily attacks) I notice the chest pain more. My focus is trying to reduce it and figure out my triggers. I wake and my chest aches most mornings. I'm tempted to not eat for a day and see what happens.

My question is to anyone who gets these spasms. How do yours feel? What kind of pain is it? When did they start? What triggers them? How long do they last? What do you do for them? What has your doctor said? Just curious b/c this is a new discovery for me as this was masked by other pain. I can live with it all. Nothing is severe. Just uncomfortable and annoying.

Thanks

Debra,

Glad to hear you are doing better :) !! I have followed your threads and was glad to see you post.

I had my Nissen 360 and HH completed on June 2. I also am experiencing the chest pains, they just started around 10 weeks post op. I have slowly added foods and I still have not had steak, salad, veggies, coffee, soda or anything spicy. Along with the pain, I noticed around the same time that I have trouble with food going through my wrap and having a longer hang time in my esophagus. I have regressed back to soft foods and I still have the chest pain and food hang time. My pain is worse and usually wakes me up in the middle of the night. The only thing that relieves some of the pain is if I get up and move around a little and go back to bed. I have my three month check up (actually it will be 4 months) on Oct 8. Hoping the doctor can give me some answers as the pain can be quite annoying at times.

Or. maybe some one will come along and have some suggestions...... wink wink

Thank you
Becca

Thanks Becca. Yes the chest pain can be quite intrusive. I too find moving around can help at times. Keep me updated on your follow up appointment. Interested to hear what your doctor says. I had stopped posting b/c I found no one was responding. Hoping there's more participation now. I know members come and go. Hope your chest pain settles. Took me months to try some foods. Just tried raw carrots last week at 6 months post op. I choked on them before surgery. Most things don't scare me now. Today I stuck to soft foods and very minimal. Less pain. :-)
