Hi all,

I'm new here, so go easy on me! I've been reading a lot of the posts here and they're very useful, and it's quite uplifting to hear people who've found solutions. Unfortunately I found myself in an incredibly stressful situation 4 weeks ago, and on that same day just began burping constantly. My entire digestive system flipped and the acid reflux came. I've had it intermittently in the past, dealt with it, but it's here with a vengeance this time. The first couple of doctors said it was just 'stress' and put me on Omeprazole without testing for H-Pylori, and then I found a doctor who did want to test. Unfortunately the heartburn came back so I'm now back on them (it's all been a bit of a frustrating mess).

Anyway, I just cannot stop burping. The one evening I did was when I was so exhausted that I just did not care anymore. Has anyone ever had something like this induced from stress, and managed to beat it? I have my thesis out of the way now, so I'm hoping my body will recover. Just terrified that I've done some long-term damage...

Thanks for your help!
Paul

Did something you eat trigger it? There are certain foods to avoid to help relax reflux like chocolate, fatty foods, tomatoes, citrus fruits, peppermint, and chewing gum.

What test? I doubt long-term damage is done as people here have had years and years of reflux.

Hey smooth, thanks for your reply. So on this day I basically panicked because I felt a click in my throat when I swallowed, and then kept trying to make sure I could swallow, went into panic mode and began burping. No problem with red wine, chocolate, fats before (perhaps infrequent heartburn). It's really weird, and not pleasant. I do worry because I did have bouts of reflux before, some of which I didn't go to the doctor about because it wasn't that severe. I think my anxiety and stress haven't been helping things.

You a soda drinker? Carbonation can cause a good amount of burping. Are you overeating? Are you sure the stuff you listed doesn't cause problems? The body changes on ya, bro. I won't touch Chinese for example any more. LoL. I remember that bottled Smirnoff alcoholic stuff had me burping all night before.

Anxiety and stress will make things worse, but it's hard not to worry. I'm the king. Xanax works for me.

No soda...it literally just began one day, when I was really panicked! My stress and anxiety levels were sky high for 3 weeks because I had a huge deadline, now they've lowered a bit. Really hoping my body comes back, because it seems very damaged at the moment...

I can relate. Try to surround yourself with friends or a hobby. It will be hard to focus on your body.
