Has anyone had any luck with healing the esophagus after bouts of reflux? I have hiatal hernia. If I yell my throat gets irritated. Doctors have not helped with this issue. Don't know what really causes the irritation issue. If I knew I may be able to help stop the irritation.

Is there anyway to stop this pain/irritation???

Yes. PPIs can help control the acid that is shooting back up. Avoid peppermint, alcohol, chocolate, caffeine, fatty foods, tomatoes, citrus fruit, and chewing gum. Elevate the head of your bed six inches. Eat small meals. Eat slowly. Don't eat late. Lose weight if overweight.

I had stage 4 esophigitis after my first EGD. It improved when I watched what I ate.

I do most of what you have suggested and don't eat what you suggested. My issue is really with my throat when I talk or yell. I'm trying to figure out a way to heal it naturally (if possible). i'm on PPi's, but they don't seem to help with my throat.

But thanks for the suggestions

I don't much care for yelling myself.

Have you had testing? I assume so since you mentioned a hiatal hernia.

Yeah I got Upper Endo. that's how I figured out about the hernia. I'm a high school baseball coach, so I need to be able to yell. LOL

But since the test the doctor gave me medicine for stopping ulcers. So I guess I may be stressed, but never feel "stressed".

You're not kidding. Coaches gotta yell!

Did the test show anything else? For example, my EGD/Endo showed esophigitis, hiatal hernia, GERD, and eventually Barrett's.

I know being stressed but not feeling it.

Sorry I'm not more help.

That's all the doctor said. Hiatal hernia and acid reflux. Said to stay on Protonix and gave some medicine for ulcers that were beginning to form. Nothing about my throat.

It's ok, you never know who you may help with your info.

Thanks anyways

Perhaps a manometry or pH study are in order.

Never heard of manometry. Have to ask my doctor about it. Thanks

Measures how well the esophagus works.
