It's been about 7 weeks since my fundoplication surgery. I had awful reflux before the surgery (but no heartburn) and now after the surgery I haven't had any reflux.

But a week ago I started having horrible pain that feels a lot like heartburn, but I'm not sure if it is.

It started only being at night, but now I'm having it on and off all day and it's very very painful. Antacid meds have helped at all (and I've tried them all). Anyone else have anything like this happen?

I had very little heartburn before the surgery, so I'm not sure what's going on.

It's probably just part of healing. The esophagus is a "dumb" organ and treats everything like heartburn.

I really hope that's it. Seems weird that it would just start 6 weeks after the surgery. :(

I believe six weeks out is prime swelling time.

Really? Wow. I wish my surgeon had told me that. Do you know how long that usually goes on for?

Sounds like your surgeon is as good as mine. So few are braced for the aftermath. I got an eating guide and that's about it.

Maybe a few weeks? Most healing occurs within the first six months and the rest at a year.

Ha, yes, all I got was an eating guide for the first few weeks. He told me I could be on regular food after a few weeks (which I was NOT ready for). He made it sound like I'd be fully recovered/healed after 4-6 weeks.

The other thing they did not warn me about was the inflating like a balloon after eating. Especially for the first month. Man that sucked. Still happens some.
