Hi guys! I'm Martina from Italy. I have had Gerd and stomach issues for about 20 years.
I had two consultations with Dr Bonavina (the King of the Linx here :-)). After seeing my tests, he said I'm not a good candidate for the Linx,so he suggested me the Stretta procedure even if he didn't garantuee any real improvements or healing.
I accepted because I'm really tired to be sick.
Today I got the phone from San Donato Hospital. They would do the Stretta next week but I feel "unprepared"and I asked to postpone the surgery. The doctor told me it would be possible the first week in November.I really feel so confused because lately I have had many issues with my anxiety and I strangely have felt better with my stomach. So I wonder: Do I have Gerd or anxiety or both?!? Would really this procedure help me? I have so many doubts.... shakehead Did anyone of you have this procedure done? Is this procedure really effective?

Thank you to everyone! eyes

Hi Martina,

I have not yet had surgery either, but it's an option I am seriously considering after problems I have had on PPI medication. Did he tell you why you were a good candidate for the Stretta but not the Linx?

You said you were not sure if you had GERD or it was just anxiety. Since you have been suffering for 20 years, I would imagine you have had tests (endoscopy, esophageal motility, PH test) that showed that you had physical signs of GERD. I know the symptoms of GERD can cause anxiety, which can aggravate the symptoms even more. That happens to me as well.

Make sure you take your time and feel comfortable before making a decision. As long as you have been given a referral for the procedure, you should have a bit more time to think about it.

Here is a link that I found useful when I was researching the Stretta procedure:

Good luck to you!!

There's been a small handful of members here who have had the stretta procedure, so not to many. IMO, if i were to have any procedure I would lean toward the nissen, as it is the global gold standard for reflux surgery. Most doctors in the US just don't recommend the stretta, it's either nissen or linx. I'm not saying stretta can't work for some but it just doesn't have a good enough track record for me.

Make sure you've tried all life style changes and even try natural remedy's before surgery. I just view surgery as a last result.
