Hi all,

Has anyone had esophagitus which was caused by taking oral medication?
I woke up a few days with burning chest pain and took some gaviscon several times during the night and now since that night I have had terrible pain eating and even drinking. Each time has been an ordeal. I have had to chew every mouthful to liquid and drink plenty of water whilst eating (which even that hurts a bit) to quickly wash food down. I have to eat in such baby mouthfuls.

Does anyone know how long it takes the bottom of the gullet to heal?

I am avoiding all caffeine and chocolate.

My daughter did this with doxy - she took it at night with insufficient water and it hurt her a whole lot. My daughter caught it fast and drank a ton of water to wash the pill down. It took a day for her to feel better.

A friend also did this with doxy in the same way as my daughter and had an actual ulceration. It took a few days for her to recover IIRR.

Currently taking Pentasa (3g/day) generic Colazal (9 6 pills/day), Sulfazine (1.5 g/day), Prevacid, folic acid, vit. D (2K iu), flax seed oil (2 tsp/day), psyllium (2 tsp daily), mesalamine enema as needed. Gluten free as of 5/30/11. Scope in 8/11 found no evidence of inflammation!
