I'm curious if everyone else with gastritis get bad backaches with it like I do? Sometimes the back hurts as bad as the stomach! As if the burning stomach isn't bad enough already! I get backaches from my lower shoulder blades all the way down to lower back. Can't even take pain pills either with gastritis because anything with aspirin is a big no no. Anybody else with this problem too?

Perhaps not everyone, but definitely some with gastritis have back pain. I began experiencing stomach pain around the beginning of September 2014. I noticed that when standing or sitting, my pain was predominately located at the tip of my sternum, although at times radiating under my left and right rib cage. But when I reclined or laid down, the pain shifted to my back.

My gastroenterologist noted that back pain is more commonly indicative of an issue with the appendix. But my blood worked confirmed my appendix enzymes are fine, and an endoscopy in late September confirmed severe gastritis.

My back pain is high, centered between my shoulder blades. I also noticed that when I swallow cold liquids or ice while reclined, I can feel between my shoulder blades when the cold reaches that spot in my stomach.

At the early parts of when this started in march and April 2014 I got a lot of pain in middle where sternum, felt like I was kicked in the stomach! Later it changed to more of a burning, scratchy feeling in upper stomach below ribcages and still I have that feeling off and on. Mostly a few hrs after meals. This stuff is hard to get healed that's for sure! I take the following..... Carafate suspension, nexium, slippery elm bark powder, pepzin GI, probiotic digestion aid, licorice root chewable tabs, drink chamomile and ginger tea. Slippery elm relieves the burning the most I'd say. I was diagnosed with mild gastritis and it hurts plenty, I can only imagine what severe feels like! Good luck, hope you get better
