I called my doc today and explained to him how I had been on the nexium 3 days and still had chestpain even tho heartburn gone and how I feel unreasonably full after I eat a very small amount.  Called me back and suggested Nexium in morning and Zantac at night and if that does not work, call the digestive disease specialist!!  What will he suggest?  I know he will do the scope and then suggest the same drugs as the other doctor.  Could this be any more frustrating? I need to work desperately and mine is so bad I can't work unless it is under control.  Should I try the drugs for a few weeks just so I can work some?  I just want a permanent solution.  I am trying to cut back on carbs...hoping Dr. Norm is right!!!

I think cutting back a bit on carbs wouldn't hurt anyone, Hearty! I try to do that, too. I'm taking Aciphex in the AM with Zantac in the AM and PM now. Something is working - cuz I'm doing pretty good!

Keep me posted on how you're doing, and make sure to come to chat on Thursday night at 8 PM CST!!

Hugs, Teri :)

so the ppi in the morning and the other blocker at night is a common way to treat this....that makes me feel good. I already feel better. Last week I could not work....it was really bad. I skipped the nexium before supper tonight to try to get on the new schedule. Do you take vitamins and such? I read where nexium depletes us of b vitamins so I guess I need to add at least a multi vitamin to my regime. Thanks and yes I look forward to the chat on Thursday.

Teri..How long have you been on these drugs? What do you think about all the posts about the side effects and dangers?

Hearty, I would give the medicine longer than 3 days to feel better. Unfortunately, sometimes it just takes awhile to heal.

I've been sick with GERD for a long while - just too busy having a heart attack and other problems to concentrate on it. So it took a while to diagnose. I've been on these types of meds. about 3 yrs. now - though in the past they called it ulcers or something else, and gave me tagamet and other types of med.'s. I've never gone off of them yet! As long as I don't try to eat a really big meal and I eat long before I go to bed at night, I feel good!

Yes, I take calcium supplements, a multivitamin for women over 50. :) And Folic Acid per Dr.'s orders, which is a B vitamin.

Re side effects and dangers? Without the help of these med.'s the side effects of having this condition could mean cancer of the esophagus! I'll take my chances.

Good Luck, Hearty and like Cathy mentioned, don't skip any med.'s - there's not been enough time for healing as yet...Hugs, Teri :)
