After waiting 6 months for my surgeon to come back after his own medical leave, and over 30 years of suffering from a choking, chronic cough, I am finally scheduled for my surgery, next Friday Nov. 14th.
I have been monitoring this message board to help me  prepare myself of what is to come. They have been very helpful. I am trying to focus on the success stories and thinking positive.
My biggest fear, is not if it will work and stop the reflux, as much as if my cough will stop. Like many of you, I was diagonosed with allergies, asthma, sinusitis etc. and even though all my tests have showed the reflux, I am nervous that these other things still might be some of the cause. Although the meds for all those things did not work. I also have been diagnosed with Vagus Nerve Damage and on meds for that, and still will have to take them.
Has anyone had similiar experience and the cough still didn't go away?
Thanks in advance for any responce.

Hi Toni,

Like you, my main complaint is/was a chronic hacking cough. I am in the 30% of Nissen patients for which the surgery did not resolve my cough. I did have LPR so the procedure was worthwhile. Insurance would not have paid for the Nissen otherwise.

I am back to allergies again as a potential diagnosis. I was treated for candida which did help some. Also taking vitamins & supplements to get immune system into full throttle. I am about 20% better. I am going to another top allergy specialist.

I do not regret getting the Nissen, very easy procedure with very little recovery time. I had no complications. It has helped me keep my weight down & eating more healthy then I ever did before. Again, the Nissen did nothing for my cough.

Hope this helps.

My NF surgery completely cured my asthma issues. I have not used my inhaler since the day of my surgery.
