Hi all

I wanted to start a thread we had going for a long time a while back.

Some place to just pop in and let everyone know how they are doing that day, week, month, whatever. Even just to see how people are or what is going on in your life. Doesn't have to be GERD specific.

For me I've been super busy with taking care of mom, coaching softball, and hunting.

As some know my daughter is back at college. She plays softball for them and is a medical major. She is currently maintaining a 4.0 gpa and the team is carrying a 3.6gpa. The best gpa for a team in the 1st semester they have ever had.

I've managed to make it past the 3 year mark for my last nissen this past August. Seems weird since my longest stretch before this one was 2 yrs and11 months. I keep expecting to need some major surgery nono.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a better 2015.

Take care,
Bill devil

Hi Bill,

Well done on your surgical abstinence!!!

I'm just getting over a little flare up, likely stress induced (gastroscopy phobia!) but with the tests behind me I can feel things settling down. Surprisingly, my latest gastroscopy showed NO Barretts, which is very good news and I guess fits with me having felt better for three quarters of this year. Who knows, Barretts is still not fully understood but I'm relieved I don't need to think about it, well not for a couple of years anyway!

Hi Bill. Nice idea-- doesn't have to be GERD related huh!

Well another year is ending and I'm getting old, older, probably the oldest member you have. But I have a decent attitude about aging and am very thankful for each and every moment. I love the holiday excitement, the beauty of the lights, the Christmas carols, wrapping gifts, and my daily walk on my beautiful beach that serves to remind me of so many things to be thankful for on each and everyday. I wish all of y'all the happiest holiday season and ask that you keep writing on our forum.

Thanks to the moderators-- each and everyone of you--- your comments have been a gift to me. Thanks. Pat ⛄️ ⭐️

Bill,

What a nice idea. This place is dead sometimes.

I bet your daughter makes you beam with pride. That's awesome.

How's the shoulder?

---

MMM,

No Barrett's? Did you dance after?! 😊

---

Pat,

Thank you for sharing. That's beautiful.

---

All,

I wish I had good news to report. I'm missing my dad and my dog who left me in 2013. They were angels on Earth.

Work is tough. I'm a worker while most slack. It's unfair.

As of late, I've been clearing my throat a lot, coughing some, spitting up red some and gray some in the mornings, burning on the far left side of my chest... makes me fear the wrap finally failed. My wrap is, or at least was, on the right tight side, so maybe it's nothing.

I opted to not let GI doc #2 do my endoscopy. I get to see #1 on 1/23 which is eons away.

I lack the will for another Nissen surgery. I've made a mistake, but you can't unring a bell.

All I want is my life back. That's all.

Bless you all.

MMM-

Great news on the barretts! I have had a couple without finding any and am on a 3 year schedule for the scope now. They still want to keep an eye on things, but with my history of surgery and the tear they are being very cautious and I am good with that.

Pat Fill-

Sounds like a great place. I was just mentioning to my wife today that I miss living on the beach.

John-

Yep, she does make me quite proud. She has her game plan to be a physical therapist and is working very hard for her goal.
The shoulder is doing great. I have a lot more range of motion than I used to and can pitch again.
Sorry things are still so bad. This is a tough time of year for many.

Take care,
Bill

Bill,

I did get Christmas stuff done early instead of putting it off, so that's nice.

That's great about the shoulder!

I know you guys are tired of hearing me whine. Lol. It is what it is. Made my own bed.

I've been stressed, no doubt about it. Expecting a nephew or niece, Chrimbo preparations, stressful job at a petrol station, impedance testing, possible changes in career path, problems with the family pets. To top it off I've got another positive peptest, which nobody believes because the results are so low.

Phew.

I wish you all a Merry (reflux free) Christmas

I've already had 3 full christmas dinners at different work/social parties in the run up to Christmas, and apart from the extra "chuffing" caused by the brussel sprouts I've had no problems.

Wish I lived by the beach Pat, I'm at least 10 years from retirement, but the way our government in the UK is going I'll probably never get there as you'll need to be 90!

Great news on breaching 3 years Bill, here's looking to the 4 year conversation this time next year.

Really sorry you're having a bad time 1039smooth, I'm sure it will resolve itself - I'm not really the religous type, but I will raise a glass to you with the wish you'll be able to do this yourself soon.

I passed the 11 year mark since my full wrap in October, still eat what I like, still have no problems and finish work today for a whole 2 weeks off - so one of the Radio stations had better play Chris Rea's "Driving home for Christmas" this evening or I will be most disappointed.

All the best to you and yours.

Les.

Holiday Greetings Bill and Forum Family & Friends,

I saw this thread and thought I would pop in for a few. I was very sorry to see that Kitt is no longer with us. She was an invaluable friend when I was going through my worst times after my Nissen. She will be missed by all. It is hard to believe it will be 4 years in April since I joined this group..

So happy to hear that you are doing so well and that your daughter is achieving such amazing goals in college and in soft ball. It sounds like she is a very determined young lady. She has a very determined Dad, so I would expect nothing less!!

I have been well, the heart is still beating and I have a few issues but, nothing to complain too much about. I am still not able to eat bread. But that is about the only thing I cannot eat at this point. I feel blessed that I have been relatively free of problems ever since my Nissen.

Dencha
How are your grandchildren?? I am sure they are growing too fast to suit you. I know my granddaughter is 6 going on 16. She is still in dance and loves it.

I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and I hope your holidays are filled with brightly shining rainbows!!!

Hey guys!

This is such a great idea!

I just had a follow up with my GI doc, I'm about 4 months post-nissen. I'm doing mostly better, but I've had a few relapses of reflux and heartburn that I'm trying not to get too worked up about. I'm studying for a really stressful professional certification so I'm chalking it up to that.

Happy Holidays to everyone, and I hope you find yourself without too much discomfort from all the tasty treats!

Sandi-

Great to hear from you.

She is very determined. Since her shoulder surgery she has decided to be a physical therapist. A lot of schooling, but will be worth it.

Hi All,

Bill, what a wonderful idea! It's always great to have an opportunity to communicate as friends here on the forum!

It was our dear Kitt, who started this tradition, and she leaves a big hole in our lives. She was the first one to welcome me when I posted to my very first thread a few weeks before my surgery in 2009. Over the years, she became a dear friend to many of us, and as she used to say, was loved, "to the moon and back!" There will never be anyone like her, and we were so glad to have known her!

It is great to hear from members who aren't around posting as much any more. I've missed you! And to our newer friends, I'm so glad you're here, providing support and encouragement to each other. That's what this forum is all about!

Yes, Sandi, I'm having lots of fun with my grandkids...who are 4 and 2. They are growing up so fast! Our family celebrates together on Christmas Eve, so I'm busy getting things ready for tonight. I'm sure you're loving every moment of your beautiful dancing granddaughter!

I don't have time to respond to each person individually right now, but once things settle down, I'll get back on this thread and chat with you all!

Have a wonderful holiday season, one and all! I'll end with one of Kitt's famous computer keyboard generated specialties that I've copied and used often:

Love Kitt's art work! Thank you Denise.

I will be in the woods and then have a small guitar gig tomorrow night, so I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

What a year it has been. I did manage to not be admitted to a hospital for a 2nd straight year. Woohoo!

Everyone please be safe this New Years. See you in 2015!

Take care,

Hi Bill,

The woods and a guitar gig...two fun places to be! I'm with you celebrating your ability to keep your distance from those darned hospitals! Be sure to keep up the good work!

We've been extra-busy with our grandkids, as their mom has been working a lot, and our son/their dad had the flu one week, and the vomiting bug the next week. We have had them over for sleepovers to help out. It's great fun to have them with us, but exhausting! I just hope we don't catch the stomach bug that has been going around their family. My hands are all dried out from washing them over and over all day!

Hi all

Well softball season begins tomorrow night! yeah

My daughter's college team left for Alabama to play this weekend and my travel team is playing in an indoor tournament starting at 10:30pm tonight.

Unfortunately my daughter took a pitch to her elbow earlier this week and has to sit out for 2 weeks until the doc gives her the okay to play again. Bummer she will miss 8 games.

I'd really like to be in Alabama watching her team play as we have high hopes for this years team with the Fall season they had. It's tough trying to go watch her play and coach my team at the same time.

Hope everyone has a great weekend

Take care,
Bill devil

Hi Bill,

Good luck to your team! They're lucky to have such an enthusiastic and dedicated coach. I hope your daughter's elbow heals quickly. It's good that she's taking the time to let it heal, so it doesn't become re-injured.

My son's team played a team where their top player had a chronic ankle injury she is playing through. She's already been given a verbal commitment to a college team (she's only a Jr.), and yet her coach plays her in a game that they've already won. She could easily have sat out at least half of the game, but she played most of the second half as well...limping much of the time. I hate to think of the damage that is being done. And sectionals are ahead. I can't figure out why parents would allow that. It doesn't make a bit of sense.

Anyway...glad to hear things are going well, and the deer that are still standing are safe for another year! LOL

I've been super busy as well. Our grandchildren need extra babysitting during basketball season. There are just not enough hours in a day!

I hope everyone here on the forum and our old friends in internet-land are all doing well!

Have a great day,
Denise

Denise-

Sorry I missed your post while I was at the tourney.

Yeah that makes no sense when you have the chance to rest and injury, do so.
We have been passing around the nasty bug going around this area for a month or 2. Can't wait til Spring!

Anyhow...updates on softball

My daughter actually made it back a week ahead of schedule. She was able to play in last weekends games with very minor discomfort. Mostly just left hand strength.

They came away with 4 more wins and are off to a 8 and 0 start. They are in Chattanooga, Tn. today and have 4 more games this weekend.

As for my team well it wasn't the weekend we had hoped for, but we did hold our own and made great strides in becoming a team. The 1 and 2 record didn't show what really went on. They very well could have won the whole thing. A last inning coaching decision probably cost us the 1st game, but we went in with a plan to switch pitchers after the 4th inning.

They bounced back great the next game and the same pitcher threw a 1 hitter. The 3rd we needed 1 more inning as the ladies were making a come back and dropped the game by 2.

So 2 more weeks until we play again and the ladies are more focused than ever!

Take care,
Bill

Hi Bill& everyone on my favourite forum. I hope you recall me Bill about 18 month or two years ago when I was having bad heartburn that i thought was my nissen from 2001. You told me of your history & said to persue the doctors here in UK. To cut a long story short on the 27th January I had the touplet operation as my first fundo was still tight and as I now have poor motility the food was collecting unable to move causing me the pain that I described as heartburn. My new Consultant cannot promise that I will be completely painfree but he did find out after 4 years what was causing it and operated. It has been 17 days now and I' m recovering easier than 14years ago, eating is easier due to the 360deg nissen changed to 180deg. Thank you Bill and everyone for your help and very useful information when I didn't know what to do and was at my wits end. Bill, love to hear all your news but can' t start to understand the sport references dont even know what sport your daughter or you does but I' m English thats my excuse!!!

Glad they finally did something! Now just be sure to let yourself heal.

My daughter plays and I coach fastpitch softball. Since switching to coaching softball I can't hardly stand to a baseball game anymore. Way to slow!

Just an update I got from my daughter. They lost both games tonight. She said it's 30 degrees and windy in Chattanooga.

Take care,
Bill

Hi to all in here!
It's been a lovely day in my part of the world today - took the opportunity to go for a walk in the warmth of the afternoon sun, with the air still having that drinkable frosty sweetness about it. I am lucky to live in a small village surrounded by farm land and superb panoramic views. Thought it would be a good idea to get my heart pumping in preparation for my fundo in 3 weeks. To be honest - I'd have done it anyway - just to see the blue sky and hear the birds singing!

Hi Everyone and Hi Reet, my fellow UK member!

Am still plodding along OK with the odd blip, fortunately they don't last too long. More suffering with the eczema - perhaps I should hop across to a different forum!

It's a cold and wet February half term here so the mudmagnets are either wired to Minecraft or out looking for mud!

It's quite cold here in Illinois! And gonna get colder!

I am definitely ready for Spring.
