Welcome Healing Well! You're definitely in the right place. There are many members here who've had the Nissen surgery, and they have a wealth of knowledge!
Like you, I had severe asthma, and was coughing nonstop. I had a lung infection before, during, and after my surgery, so like you, I was really worried that I'd cough my stitches out and destroy my wrap.
I was also on high doses of steroids, and my internal tissue was very fragile. The surgeon actually took a few extra stitches to ensure they would hold. If you're not on lots of steroids (with adrenal insufficiency, like I had), that won't be necessary.
I had my surgery in February 2009, and my repair held just fine, through lots of very strong, severe coughing (both during my recovery, and periodically from then to now), so I don't think you have to worry. Be sure to tell your anesthesiologist about
your asthma, as they can put breathing medicine in the anesthesia gas. Also, you might want to do a neb treatment before your procedure. Talk to your asthma doc about

You'll want to use a pillow to support your chest/abdomen when you cough. If you're anything like me, your left rib area incision will take the longest to feel better. I found ice to be the best treatment.
