Symptoms:
- accumulation of throat saliva, constant throat clearing, spitting, voice hoarseness/weakness, affected my sleep....especially after eating, + wrong foods, diagnosed with LPR/ silent reflux
- PPIs did not help. Only "Gaviscon Advance" helped somewhat

Tests:
- PH test (inserted chip 48 hrs) showed 11 reflux events/day & night

Stretta performed April:
= at 6 weeks: have new symptoms of regurgitation, bloating, feeling of fullness and am on 40mg of PPIs/day
= told this happens in 10% of patients and will subside with time and to stay on PPIs for 2-3 months
= was told it takes 3-6 months to see full effects of Stretta

Anybody else have Stretta, comments?

Hello Carcalif,

It's been about three months since you've done your Stretta.
I'm really curious as to how you're feeling now. You said at 6 weeks you had a worsening on Gerd symptoms. Are these still there and what about your original LPR symptoms?

I hope you're much doing better...
Cheers from a fellow Gerd/Lpr sufferer

Hello fellow suffer , at 10 weeks after stretta all of my severe new side effects disappeared, thankfully! On my original symptom for having the procedure in the first place, LPR, hoarseness , saliva accumulation, coughing etc., the symptoms are still there but they have improved by about 30 to 50% . Per the doctor, if you show any improvement then you should show more improvement by the end of six months I'm in month three so I have three months to go . Conclusion for me: at this point I would have not done the procedure because of the suffering of the side effects for two months, I may change my mind after another three months if I get significant improvement.

Hi Carcalif!

This is great news...30% to 50% improvement is quite significant! And it's also great to know the side effects were temporary!

I know you said the two months were difficult, but if this improvement in original LPR complaints is permanent to some degree, I'd say it must have been worth it; was it really so torturous? I hope not :(

How long did you try to sort it out with PPIs before you decided to go with the stretta? Are you on PPIs now?

I wish you more improvement and hopefully complete resolution of your symptoms...since you have still three months to expect more improvement, and since studies show 70% or more, your situation is still quite favorable as your doctor has said.

Good luck and hope to hear from you soon.

thanks for the encouragement Mr. mustard and I hope you do well too, what are your symptoms? I feel the 30 to 50% improvement was not worth going through the procedure, From the cost and the punitive side effects and because I still feel I have it . I do not take PPI's For my LPR conditions because it has zero effect. The only thing that helps is Gaviscon advance, liquid, from Europe not sold in the USA . which I still take . Also as you know from the news a month ago all PPIs have a 20% or greater increase in heart attack risk . which
is not true for H2 blockers such as Pepcid or Zantac . So I look forward to more remodeling from the procedure over the next three months to make another conclusion on whether was worth it or not . I did it because a friend had it done but his Gerd was much worse with regurgitation , heartburn and affected his life , however it took six months and he is completely free of symptoms for the last 10 years . And he is completely off 40 mg a day of PPI's.

Hi thanks for your insight again...I used to have classic GERD for the past 5 years until this month it progressed to LPR due to bad lifestyle choices. I get sore throat, lump feeling, difficult swallowing, burning upper chest, ear aches, bitter taste in mouth, and sometimes shortness of breath. Hell on earth in other words. Well...you are absolutely right about Gaviscon Advanced...I tried it since yesterday and I'm getting marked improvement. I take 10 to 15ml after each meal and before bedtime since this is recommended by a controlled study. I am on 2x40mg Protonix.

Well I'm glad to hear your friend became completely symptom free, which is very encouraging indeed...who knows you still have a chance to get there. Good luck and please keep us posted. God bless you.

Hello, Carlcalif!

I too am looking to get Stretta done and it's been 1 month since your last update - any changes as of yet?

I have my appointment with a GI surgeon tomorrow.

Thanks!

I'm 12 days into the stretta... have my own post called STRETTA 2015 that I will continue to update. Anyone know if Carlicalif is better at the 6 months mark? Also, Carl, curious where you got your's done. I got mine done at UCI.
