I wake up feeling like my chest is you would feel if you had eaten something and it did not go all the way down.  Of course, I fast all night so I know it is not food.  I really do not eat a lot of food during the day.  This is a great way to keep the weight way down (ha ha).  Seriously, I tend to lose a bit of weight when my gerd or whatever it is decides to act up.  I don't get the fullness in the chest thing.  Thankfully, since starting Nexium one month ago I have had ZERO heartburn...but I still have the other junk.  Sometimes I eat a little something and immediately get really severe cramps in my stomach.  They may go away or I may have severe diarrhea.  What is up with that?  This proves to me my digestive system is out of whack.  I have a theory.  I had major abdominal surgery in March of 2004.  Don't they pack your intestines with cotton or lay them on a table or something?  Is it possible surgery messed something up and now my body does not act like it used to or am I majorly stretching for answers here????   Love this site!!!  Thanks for ANY input.  yeah

I had two major abdominal surgeries in 2003, four months of each other. After the second surgery, my stomach has never been the same and most of my GERD symptoms appear abdominal. Some of it could be scar tissue, don't know....

Good Luck w/finding answers!

Hi again hearty,

I know you posted in another thread that you feel an endoscopy cost too much for what results it will produce (they will just put you on same meds anyhow), but if you are having severe cramps and diarrhea from eating it could be something more than just GERD. Just a few possibilities: (I'm not a i bet there could me many more possibilities than these) IBS, colitis related (of which severe cramping and diarrhea and or constipation is a symptom)  or as you said...scar tissue related, which  can cause intestinal and or bowel spasms. There  are different meds for for each of these conidtions, including spasms. This is just a thought of mine because I suffer with the severe cramping and diarrhea (other times its constipation) and I have IBS, intestinal, bowel and bladder spasms. It doesnt mean you do have something else, but why chance it? These conditions aren't diagnosed via the endoscopy though...but by a different scope and of course I cant remember what the name of that one  is. If you find out what the symptoms are caused by, then you can learn to control them...and of course our little HW family will be more than happy to offer advice, suggestions and of course support. Would your doctor be open to listen to these thoughts? I sure hope I helped and didnt come across as preachy. Just concerned for you. Hope you are having a great day.

I told my digestive disease doctor that I was hearing a lot of noise in my stomach and he said IBS and prescribed a drug. The side effects were so overwhelming, I threw the script away!! This whole thing is just so weird. The digestive doctor can't stay in the room for more than 5 minutes!! Unreal for the money he charges.
