Hello Everyone,
I had a Nissen done in March of 2014. In May of that same year, I had gotten sick off of some migraine medicine (was wretching really bad). I had two separate episodes. Then after about
6 months later I had an even more severe wretching episode of extreme vomiting (nothing came up but a little bit of liquid). Anyway, I went back in to see my doctor because I started burping again and was worried about
my wrap. The doctor did a berium xray and said my wrap was fine and there was nothing wrong with it. I told him that I was also experiencing acid reflux again about
3-4 months later. He said there is nothing to indicate that was happening. He made me upset, because I was not lying. Plus I had had two different doctors tell me after looking down my throat that I had significant reflux. The doctor ended up refering me back to the gastro doctor for him to handle my case as the other doctor was just my surgeon. So, the gastro doctor finally was able to do my bravo test at the end of September to check for reflux. I just got the results today that I have significant reflux back again. The doctor wants me to go on 40 mg of omeprezol twice daily (I am currently on it 20 mg twice daily but still have reflux) until I see the doctor back in a month. I was told that that medicine can cause osteoporosis, and that runs in my family. I am not sure what they are going to do. I am thinking that my wrap got ruined because it is obviously not working any more. So, should I request another wrap to be performed? (which I don't really want) or are there other options available? I am curious. I'd like to be prepared for my upcoming appointment.
Thanks for reading. I know I wrote a lot. :) I'd appreciate any help.

I'm very sorry that you are experiencing symptoms. I would think they would do an endoscopy to check on it and determine the next step. I would definitely raise your concern about
omeprezol and osteoporosis. Maybe there is another medicine without that risk. Best of luck.

Readingdaygirl,
Thank you for replying to my post. I had an endoscopy twice this year actually. They always do an endoscopy when they do the bravo test. But anyway, I was just checking to see if there is anyone who knew of any other options. :)

You should ask to have a 24hr impedance pH study done instead, the Bravo test can miss so much information and this one may show a problem the Bravo didn't detect such as non-acidic reflux. Or you may have just been really unlucky and not symptomatic during the test.
Its awful that your doctor wouldn't believe you. You'd think they'd have more compassion than that. I hope you find some help soon. If they are insistent on you taking medication, could you try H2 antagonists like Zantac instead? They don't have the osteoporosis risk.

I was very nervous about
having to get the Nissen repaired. Don't fear it, but if you can, get consults with other surgeons. If you have the option of a University hospital, go there.
Surgeons don't like to admit they failed. They can be very arrogant and downright mean. My surgeon laughed in my face.
As you probably know from your past, most of the medications available just don't do enough for us. Even at 40 mg. omeprazole bicarb, my acid was breaking through and I inhaled it. The only way to stop it for me was surgically
At this point, you really need to be firm with moving forward and getting yourself fixed. Be sure to keep Zofran or another type of anti-nausea medication available at all times, to stop the nausea before the vomitting begins. I keep in in my bedside table, on my kitchen counter and in my purse.
Until I could get my repair scheduled, I also used Gaviscon to help with the reflux, along with the max. strength omeprazole. Maybe give that a try until you can get it fixed.
Good luck Spincera, stay strong!!!
