Does anyone know how this nerve is damaged.
I cant work out if the HH and GERD cause the damage or vice versa.

I would start with speaking to your doctor, especially if you already have damage or if you are afraid of damaging this nerve.

You might want to do an internet search as well, especially for information at medical sites.
