eyes so, i've had GERD symptoms for 2 months already, the scariest of them shortness of breath, I've gone to the doc's 3 times already, first he put me on zantac and didn't do much, then he sent me to a specialist and he said that shortness of breath was not GERD, which contradicts what i see online. Besides that i have hearburn and bloating, they all started at the same time.
So this new doc gave me Aciphex. The symptoms got better for a week, i thought i was cured. Still trying to watch my diet, I had a burrito and the next day i got the shortness of breath and bloating again, my stomach feels big.
The doc didn't tell me what i have, if any tests were necessary, (the other doc did a blood test to check for ulcer and came back neg). Basically he said, take aciphex for a month and come back if you are still not feeling well.
It has been a week and i am not sure if i should request an endoscopy or barium meal test, to be sure. I feel like the shortness of breath is so debilitating that I cant wait another month to go back to the doc and have me try another kind of medicine, I am thinking I am going to go to another specialist and request further testing.
I have been eating bland foods, taking supplements, food enzymes, probiotics, mastic gum, aloe, honey, apples. etc
I just feel frustrated that the docs are so eager to just prescribe something and send you away, instead of doing all the necessary tests. As far as i know it could be a hiatal hernia or something else, and GERD is maybe just a symptom.
Anybody had a similar experience or taking aciphex?

I have had great success with Aciphex. I have been on it for over a year. And if I miss a dose, my body doesn't forgive me. ;)
I think if you are seeing gastro, you need an endoscopy. Or maybe you need to swith dr.s. I have an ulcer. TO my knowledge, from experience and nursing school, you need to scope the ulcer to prove its there. I have a duodenal ulcer, IBS and Reflux. I have had an endoscopy, barium, and colonoscopy.
Stick with your bland diet. That will help alot! WIth many GI disorders, come others. First sign may be reflux, but then the do the endoscopy and find an ulcer like they did on me. Keep on trucking and take care, Tracy

thanks for your reply, I think that aciphex got rid of my heartburn symptoms, but now i have a new thing that is that my stomach feels bloated or swollen under my left rib cage. Specially after i eat it feels full and slowly goes back to normal.
Is this aciphex? Also have been very gassy and bloated, the last couple of days
I am getting close to requesting my doc an endoscopy or barium meal test. I feel like that the hardest thing about this is that i haven't gotten diagnosed yet.
I would feel better knowing exactly what it is and going from there.
I have insurance with a high deductible and i really don't want to fork out $2500 for a test
but it might be worthed. Is the barium meal test as expensive?
