I have recentaly been diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on aciphex. I have been on the meds for over a week and am still not feeling better.  I had a barium xray done today, all it showed was that i was fine..from that veiw.  I am very frustrated because its seems my acid reflux gets worse no matter what i eat.  I have been on a limited diet for the last week and still feel acidy.  I am going back to my family doctor tomorrow to demand that i get sent to a GI doctor.  Does anyone have some advice on what might make the acid go away? Has anyone had the same problem with the aciphex? PLEASE HELP

hey
i totally know what you are going through, i am in the same boat. I've been on aciphex for a week, and symptoms improved for a few days but then my stomach started feeling supper bloated.
Today i am fine, but the last two days were bad.
I almost stop taking aciphex.
The heartburn symptoms are better though, I just got an apointment with a new gi doc, to see if he can do a barium test or endoscopy.
Diet is important, eat good yogurt, apples, bland foods, veggies, lots of aloe juice and capsules,
and avoid smoking or caffeine or anything spicy.
It is frustrating i feel like sometimes things flare up all of a sudden for no reason and in a couple days i am ok again for 3 or 4 days and flare up again.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

hey krushedspiritecan, sorry to hear, maybe you are just having a bad week, i have been on it around the same amount of time and the first 10 days it was great, then i had a burrito with no hot sauce just beans and meat, not spicy. and boom i felt awful, after that i felt good again.
The doc says you need to let it heal with the aciphex, so at the same time be very careful of what you eat or drink and how you sleep.
The shortness of breath has gone away, now it is just stomach bloated and i feel like it takes longer for my stomach to empty out. Some things i eat make it worse but for the most part it is improving, ready to feel 100% better though.
foods that aggravate the problem are spicy, fatty, caffeine, or eating big meals.
also i noticed that if i bend over to pick up something aggravates it, or sleeping on my stomach.
I am sleeping on a wedge pillow.
it seems to help, also tons of probiotics and yogurt
good luck, don't despair the doc says that it takes a long time to heal, months. just take care of yourself and pretty soon we'll be feeling much better

I went to a new doctor today and he prescribed prevacid for my acid reflux. He seems to think that the aciphex wasnt working for me and he said sometimes you have to try diffrent drugs. I am going back to see him in 10 days to see how the prvacid is working. I hope i works. Im so ready to start feeling more like the old me. I have been really good about watching my diet. and i sleep with my bed proped up. He also gave me religan to help empty out my stomach at night. Im gald to see you are feeling better and hopefully soon ill be better too

Krushedspritecan, before you keep taking the Reglan, make sure you are fully informed about the drug.  If you do a websearch, you can find websites dedicated to lawsuits against the makers of Reglan.  I don't want to alarm you, but it can potentially cause serious, permanent side effects.  Some doctors do prescribe it, but it can only benefit you to do some research and then decide from there.

Wishing you all improved health.

interesting, i take enzymes to empty the stomach quicker but haven't been so good at it.
Good to hear that you are trying something else. It is frustrating to be on something for a while not knowing if you are supposed to keep waiting or try something new.
I hear you about going back to your old self, I 've been to parties where i only drink water, lately.
Lately for lunch a sandwich with just a breast of chicken with rye, lettuce and fresh mozarella, and no mustard or mayo, doesn't give me any symptoms.
At night my doc said if i was having problems to take a pepcid complete.

I havent taken any of the reglan yet.. I was too scared to take it last night. I know some people who have taken it for a short time and some had success and some didnt. Im still very scared to take new medication. It weird ive never been afraid to take anything. But i got up enough courage this morning to take the lexapro. And so far it seems to be going ok. I was a little sleepy but not enoigh to put me to sleep
