Nice to meet you all. First of all, I apologize for the long post
I'm currently suffering from acid reflux but I don't know whether this reflux is caused by too much or too little acid reflux. From what I've read on the internet, too little acid reflux can also have a very similar symptom with too much acid. The symptom starts about
3 weeks ago when I was so stressed due to many problem in work and family and at that time, the only symptom that I have was trapped belch after eating (the feeling that you want to belch but cannot because it feels like the food is blocking the belch), gas and flatulence almost all the time, sour taste in mouth, constant mucus on the back of my throat, feeling of lump (globus?) just under the adam's apple and regurgitation of food after eating. I never feel any heartburn at all. My symptom get worse if I lay down, bend, or sit after eating.
I then take prilosec OTC 20 mg; after 3-5 days, it usually relieve my acid reflux. However, after a week of no relieve, I then consult to my doctor which prescribe me 5 different types of medicine, and one of them was Pariet (Rabeprazole) 20 mg. He said that I need to take it 3 times a day, which I think is too much since the dosage instructed in the medicine box is once per day or at the very most 2 times a day. However, since I really don't want to suffer anymore, I took Pariet 3 times a day for a week. This does not resolve my problem, I still feel all of my symptom. So I went to a different doctor that was surprised that I was given 5 different medicines and that I was instructed to take Pariet 20 mg 3x a day. He then ordered me to stop all of my medicine and prescribed me Dexilant 60 mg to be taken once daily. After 3 days of taking Dexilant, I think my symptom has slowly went down, but I still have the feeling of lump under my adam's apple which is uncomfortable but it does not affect my swallowing ability.
Then I make a huge mistake of eating a large portion of japanese curry during weekend out with my friends. Right after eating the japanese curry, the acid reflux kicks back on full force. This time, I have shortness of breath, trapped belch, tremendous bloating, and feeling of lump both under and above my adam's apple. It feel like I just want to vomit but I can't. Right after that day until today (around 3 days), my symptoms have not went down despite taking Dexilant 60 mg daily. Can it be because I have too little stomach acid due to the over prescript
ion of Pariet and constant take of PPI drugs for 3 weeks (1 week prilosec, 1 week, pariet, 1 week dexilant)? Or is it just because the effect of the PPI cannot be felt after just a week of taking (Dexilant)?
Now I also felt fatigued (but perhaps it can also due to stress and I only slept around 6 hours per day) and I feel hungry all the time despite eating often (tough with small portion to contain my acid reflux). Today, I don't take my daily dose of Dexilant just to test the effect of not taking PPI. So far, there is no effect at all, I still have all the symptom after eating.
Do you guys think my acid refulx is caused by too much or too little acid?
I appreciate the time that you took to read my long post. Sorry if my English is bad because it is not my first language. Hope you all have a wonderful day. Take care.
