Hello Everyone,

It has been quite a while since I have been on here. I have been fighting for a nissen redo for almost two years now. I have had two barium swallows, a manometry test, a gastric emptying test and two pH tests, and several upper endoscopys. First of all, both pH tests indicated significant GERD and my 2nd barium swallow finally shows a hiatal hernia and a partial unwrapping of my nissen. Also, the other tests were normal. Anyway, the doctor is agreeing to surgery and it will be on February 7th or sooner if an opening becomes available.

The reason for the problems with my wrap is because in Dec of 2014 I had a violent vomiting episode and then started having GERD symptoms. I've had a couple of other vomiting episodes since then. Also with my vomiting episodes, only liquids came up. Since then I have been prescribed zofran for nausea and I take it when I get nauseous.

I am thinking that my wrap only came partially unraveled recently as I have this horrible cough. I've been to the doctor numerous times for it. I've had quite a few different medications and some tests, and they have chalked it up to being my GERD. I am on Dexilant and Zantac, so my acids are neutral, but I'm thinking that the reflux is coming up into my throat and causing post nasal drip.

Anyway, I am wondering if serious coughing can cause damage to a wrap? This cough causes gaging and nausea. There is only one thing that helps and that is opiate medications as they cause a suppression of the cough reflex. I do not like these medications and do not want to be on them.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and if so, what have you done about it?

Thank you for your time.

If I was you I would look into getting a lynx instead of a redo for nissen, just to risky for second redo, USC in CA is perhaps the best at doing the lynx, I know if I ever have a redo no way in hell will I ever get a nissen again. Just to many complication that can go wrong

Before I would do anything, I would get a 2nd opinion.

This is actually my 3rd opinion. I was seeing two GI specialists and now this is the GI surgeon.
