Does anyone out there suffer from Achalasia? I found my surgery on the 14th will be a Heller Myotomy with Dor Fundoplication? Has anyone had this particular procedure? The closer it gets I am getting more and more nervous! If you have had this procedure, please let me know! I am curious as to how it went! Thanks!

Hello Robdini33, How did your surgery go? I am scheduled for my Heller Myotomy on October 19. I have been all over the internet trying to get as much information as possible. I am extremely nervous of the unknown. I have been given so much good information and advice online. I guess my biggest worries about the surgery, is the pain afterwards. I hope you can shed a little light for me. I have been told the chest pain is much worse than prior to surgery. Did you suffer from much pain? How long did your surgery take and if there is any advice you could give me to help prepare for after surgery I would be so grateful.

I look forward to your reply. and hope you are feeling much better and able to eat and drink much better now.

It took me several months of eating smoothies, mashed potatos and canned hash to find out that I'm in the early stages of Achalasia. I had a second GI scope, manometry and bravo done two weeks ago. They say my esophagus still works, but not well. Myotomy and Fundoplication are what my doctor has suggested today. Just waiting for their office to call and set me up.

I'm a 34 year old male. It's scary to think about this surgery, but living this way has to be worse. Have you guys had this done yet? How did it go?
