My husband has had essential tremor for years and it has gradually worsened. He is age 70 now and has visible tremors in his hands. He feels the sensation of tremor or a vibration feeling internally and in other parts of his body, although these are not visible.
He was not able to tolerate Neurontin and taking additional blood pressure medicine did not help and lowered his b/p too much. We were wondering how quickly the sensation of tremors progresses into actual visual tremors. Also, over the past few years, we have had lots of stress in our lives: care of elderly parents, loss of parents, my husband having cancer, me having major surgery, etc etc. I know that stress can worsen his symptoms at the time. I am wondering if it was possible to maintain a period of less stress for a lengthy period of time, could that lead to long term improvement for him? I do not know how much stress influences this condition in both the short term and the long term. Are there other medications to be tried? Thank you for any helpful info that you may be able to share.
