I had my NF in January of 2014 and have been experiencing what feels like the return of reflux/heartburn for years (plus the feeling of something like mucous stuck in my throat). My GI doctor put me back on omeprazole about 6 months after the surgery. Over the past year or so, my dose has been increased to 4 omeprazole pills a day. While this helps a lot, I still feel some breakthrough symptoms. I have had two EGDs that show that the wrap is loose, but the bravo results came back normal with no evidence of acid exposure. I’m very confused by this, since while doing the bravo I was off of my omeprazole for 9 days and was in agony. Does anyone have an idea of what this means?

I have no idea what it means, but if it were **ME** I would find another gastroenterologist for a 2nd opinion. I'm a big fan of searching my local medical centers for the heads of departments and contacting their offices directly for appointments.

I know this doesn't help you right now, but in all honesty it sounds like you need another set of eyes on your symptoms to help figure things out.

Even with the Nissen, there is always the possibility of experiencing reflux post-surgery - especially if the wrap is loose. There is also something that is referred to as non-acid reflux that can cause the mucous. You can try eliminating dairy products and see if that helps with the mucous. At the very least, I agree with MJZ that a second opinion is warranted with a different gastro doctor and possibly a visit to an ENT.

Thank you for the responses. I’m scheduled for two more tests next week, so I hope that will help us find the route cause. The Dr that is ordering these tests is actually the second opinion.
