I have been dealing with GERD (only in lower esophagus) for about
6 years now. My omeprazole slowly stopped working last March (2017), so I decided to slowly ween off of it (over a 3 month period). Over the 3 months I had almost no reflux. Even after I was fully off of it. In June, I started having some reflux pain. So, like an idiot, I decided to try apple cider vinegar (2 tbsp to 1 glass of water). It seemed to be working, but got to the point where I was taking it, it would work, then an hour later I would reflux really bad. It got so bad I finally got off of the ACV and all hell broke loose (refluxing in my throat, mouth, lungs, ect). In August (2017) I got Linx installed. Still have reflux in my throat, mouth, lungs, ect. To make matters worse, since the Linx I have had manometry, 48 hr Bravo, and 24 hr ph study. I passed all with flying colors. All of the doctors are looking for high PH events and I really believe I have low PH acid refluxing up. Based on the do it yourself acid PH test with baking soda and water. Also, because I have very little pain in my esophagus now.
I know I have LPR / reflux because everytime I eat or drink, a nasty fluid (tastes like rotten eggs mixed with vinegar) comes back into my throat / mouth and slowly irritates everything (especially my throat). My throat starts to hurt really bad and the muscles around my throat / jaw spasm and tighten up. Then, my lungs start to burn and my breath shallows, my nose and sometimes my eyes burn and gets really irritated from the strong vapors.
I eat almost perfect: chicken breast, egg whites, vegetables, almonds. I raised my bed years ago. I even tried going back on omeprazole. Nothing seems to work. The only thing that seems to help is to Lozenge small bits of sucralfate throughout the day. And that is hit or miss.
So, again my question is: Has anyone ever totally cured their LPR? If so, how did you do it? Or, does any one have any tricks that seem to help alleviate the symptoms of this horrible disease. At this point, I would happily eat dog poop if I really thought it would help!
