Hello all, I'm getting close to 3 weeks post surgery of my 180 degree fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair.

Overall, things are pretty good, but I have noticed some abdominal pain/discomfort, which I've been having for about 5-6 days (by abdominal, I mean more or less around my belly button region). I feel it sometimes when I walk, but feel like I really aggravate it by bending over...Either in a chair, or just bending over when standing up, it makes it worse. It's definitely not the incisional pains from the laparoscopic wounds...Those basically went away after 5 days.

I'll probably visit my doctor tomorrow to talk about it, but would appreciate if someone had any ideas on if this is normal, and/or what it could be?

Also, FYI: I had my appendix taken out a few years ago, so that at least rules out one very serious possibility.

Yeah, pretty normal, imo. This is one of those really long recovery surgeries. Lots of parts have to grow back together. Lots of stitches have to dissolve. Everything's rearranged. And hernia repair added another dimension.

Look in the archives for stories. The google search box at the top right of the page.

Figure 6 months to start feeling decent, a year for recovery, at least. But you got rid of your problem, hopefully very successfully. It was worth my time! I'm 8 years out and happy and my hernia was a giant paraesophageal (stomach stuck in chest)!
