Hi I’m Alissa and I’m 25, I’ve had sever GERD for the past 4 years. Endoscopy in 2015 negative biopsy for cancer, Endoscopy in March confirmed hiatal hernia. Surgery for a Nissen is at the end of December done robotically. I have a few things giving me alot of anxiety. If anyone has experience with any of my questions to provide advice or guidance that would be appreciated. And I understand everyone’s experience is different.
1) what should I expect in a pre-op? How long is it usually?
2)Do you have any congestion or breathing improvements post surgery? I feel like I’ve been slightly congested for years and I’ve seen some say their breathing improves.
3) have you been able to drink alchoal after a nissen ? Beer or hard alchoal? What about caffeine, tomatoes. Coffee. All things that set off GERD previously do you not experience GERD if you do try them for a cheat meal per say?(I love me a good Bloody Mary or cup of coffee )
4) how long did it take to go back to exercise. Ie. weight lifting. HIIT. Hiking. Sex?, Etc. I’ve had my appendix removed when I was 14 and remember it took several months. Wondering about the recovery time with a NF.
5) I work a desk job. How realistically do you think in time I should take off. Doctor said a week but I do everything on the computer and can work remotely. Is it realistic to do light work by day 4 or 6?
Any other advice you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you!!
