Hi, folks. Long story short: Nissen in '13, recurring weight gain, Nissen failed, recurring hiatal hernia. Gastric emptying shows normal emptying for solids and slightly slower for liquids. Endoscopy reveals said recurrent large hiatal hernia, no esophagitis, Barrett's esophagitis (discovered years ago).
I'm trying to only eat twice a day before 2 p.m., but it doesn't seem to matter. If I lay down, I feel poorly the next day. The reflux I experience isn't enough to wake me up, but I do feel poorly when I do have to wake up. Sore throat is pretty constant upon waking up. GI doctor says since my sore throat is usually in the morning, it probably is reflux and not an environmental factor such as dry air. I've started an allergy pill again today to see if it helps just in case. Weight loss doctor likes the two meal a day idea; the GI doctor would like three. I'm to avoid big meals. What exactly would you define a small meal to be?
Have any of you elevated your bed 6 to 8 inches? Did it help? I've been spending some time in my recliner for sleep, but wake up with neck pain. Can't win. Edit: I don't see how I can wait 8-9 hours to lay down and still feel this badly the next day after sleep.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
