I am 34Yo from Indonesia, and please understand if my grammar wrong.
I was in pain on November 2018 after drinking espresso, and i vomited. Since then, my life was black and white, sorrow and depressed, i always have abdominal pain, seek doctor they give antacid, h2 blocker and last ppi. i took pantropazole for 1 month with other medicine it gets better but i stop, thought i'd heal. After 5days off the pain came back, i took another month of pantoprazole, it did help, i'm on very strict diet, never touch coffee or food that can triggered my acid. i was asking doctor to give me endoscopy to seek the cause, my doctor said it waste of money, whatever the cause you still have same medicine so just tried another month of medicine. (i know Indonesian doctor sound stupid, and they really famous of it in southest asia) we can't trust doctor here, everyone around me when sick they prefer to flight to Singapore or Malaysia.
March 2019 i went to Malaysia, after endoscopy doctor found that i have hiatal hernia, mild gastritis and acid re-flux. But he didn't recommend surgery for me, he said i'm still young just need to keep a healthy life and take medicine. he prescribe me with Nexium 40mg Once daily. i hate medicine, i have mild anemia due to thalasemia and iron deficiency, and i read that PPI reduce my absorption of some nutrient.
i tried off PPI for days i have mild pain in my abdominal, back pain, sore throat, but i thought i can handle it, i don't want to depend on the medicine. but sometime in the middle of the night i would get very painful abdominal and have to drink liquid antacid to cool it down.
i know that my case is less severe than others, but you all must be understand with the pain that i went through
I read a lot of successful fundoplication stories and side effect of it. i want to ask everyone here, is there possible to have hiatal hernia repair without fundoplication? some said when it just hernia repair the possibility for hiatal hernia come back is high, but for me fundoplication is very horror.
I thought that rather than waiting my hernia got worse on my 50, i can repair it now and heal faster. I've contact one of GI surgeon in Malaysia, he said that he need some additional test before deciding whether i, suitable for surgery or not. from where i live i need to take plane about 3hours to Malaysia.
Please give me your opinion, because i read a lot people taking medicine in the end the decide to have surgery.
