Fluid Hydraulics And GERD
Missing The Obvious: Sometimes we miss obvious factors in seeking why we suffer from chronic health disorders. If you are reading this you or someone you love is likely suffering from GERD. A great deal information is available on GERD but my preliminary search of this literature did not reveal anything related to fluid hydraulics. Someone I love dearly has been suffering from GERD for a long time with little success in finding help. After observing her behavior, I am wondering if hydraulics is a possible casual factor being overlooked in this disorder.
Fluid hydraulics and GERD: Fluid hydraulics is defined as “the branch of science and technology concerned with the conveyance of liquids through pipes and channels, especially as a mechanical force or control”. I'm curious if the large amount of information is available demonstrating the mechanical power of hydraulics in transmitting power from one location to another has ever been investigated as a causal factor in GERD. Someone I love spends a lot of time either laying in bed reading or laying on a sofa reading positioned in a way in which hydraulic power could be forcing stomach acid up her esophagus. Furthermore, she has a habit of laying flat on her back and then crossing her knees. In addition, she also consumes a great deal of fluids during a typical day. Does what I'm describing suggest hydraulics may play a major role in her GERD?
Treatment Implications For Modifying Hydraulic Pressure in treating GERD: A fair amount of anecdotal information is available suggesting hydraulics plays role in GERD. The most obvious relationship is evident in elevating the head of a bed. While not everyone seems to benefit from elevating their bed, a significant number of GERD sufferers do appear to benefit from doing so. Similar anecdotal information is available on the relationship between eating food and drinking fluid shortly before going to sleep further suggests hydraulics play a role in the severity of GERD.
Further Research On Hydraulics And GERD: More research may exist on the relationship between hydraulics and GERD. If so, it will be helpful to post the references to such research on this website. Simply recording the amount of fluid GERD sufferers drink during a day and recording the severity of GERD upon awakening the following morning would also be informative in terms of identifying a relationship. As GERD sufferers know, the medical options for treating chronic GERD are very limited along with a high risk of cancer related to drugs controlling GERD. Treating GERD as a hydraulics problem may offer a new and more promising ways of obtaining relief from this chronic problem.
