Hi, diagnosed with Hiatus Hernia, Barretts Osephagus, Glandular mucosa has mild chronic inflammation, no Dysplasia. Is pain under left lower ribs after eating, back pain, weight loss, dry eyes, sinus headaches especially when sitting caused by Barretts & Hiatus Hernia ?
On Esomeprazole 40mg twice a day but still wake early with acid reflux.

There are many different symptoms that can be caused by GERD/Hernia/Barrett's, everyone is different. Your symptoms sound pretty standard. Keep in mind that you need to take the PPI one hour prior to eating, and then you have to eat. It does take some time to notice relief, and not every PPI works for everyone. If you notice that you don't think you are benefiting from it, your gastro doctor can try another brand. You might want to take a Pepcid before bedtime for some additional relief.

I'm on PPI's for about 4 years.
Trying to figure out is it the Hernia that effects the Sinus or d meds?
Thanks Sharon for your reply, I've tried 3 or 4 different PPI's they help but don't get rid of the acid.
Is the pain under the lower left ribs especially after eating mainly due to acid?
I will look into Pepcid aswell.

Hi James:

We aren't medical professionals on these Forums, but my best guess would be that the hernia has nothing to do with the sinus issues and headaches - at least that's been my experience. It could be a side effect of your meds, so it's best to speak with your doctor with a lot of your questions and concerns. If you haven't already, you may want to schedule a visit with an ENT. Usually the pain under the ribs is from the acid, or gas. You might want to try some anti-gas medication (simethicone) to see if that gives you any relief. Are you following a strict GERD-friendly diet, and keeping a food diary to try and pinpoint your trigger foods? Sometimes people develop food sensitivities at one point during their lifetime.

Hi Sharon,
I was of the same opinion about meds causing sinus issues but I noticed my sinus headaches are worse when I sit down so I think the hernia might be a factor. I will check with GP about ENT appointment. I seem to recall an issue with taking Gaviscon (not familiar with Simethicone) while on Asprin? I had already stopped eating greasy foods, tea and chocolate biscuits ..which seems wrongsmile

I don't have any experience with Gaviscon, but simethicone is an O-T-C anti-gas medication. Talking to your doctors is the way to go.
