Hi- so 12 days ago I had hiatal hernia repair and esophageal wrap, primarily because my silent and not so silent aspirations had reached a level of permanent lung damage. Previous GERD symptoms were well managed prior to surgery, with occasional Nitro SL required for esophageal spasms, usually with good relief. Today I tried a couple bites of baked fish and immediately started a moderate spasm. But the problem was I was suddenly straining to breath. I made it to my nitro and did get relief within 1-2 minutes, but it definitely got my attention. While I was admitted in hospital-eating did not go smoothly with continued burping, spasms, and having to continually swallow with the attempts at soft food. So they told me to go back on full liquids and just try soft foods at my own pace. Ive eaten macaroni and cheese, even a frozen Salisbury steak with gravy and did ok. I was totally surprised by airway blockage. Any advice would be appreciated.
