I tell everyone that surgery should absolutely be your last resort, and as with any surgery, you should seek a second opinion. Make sure that you have had a current endoscopy, barium swallow, 24-hour pH testing, as well as a manometry to test for swallowing disfunction. As far as your fitness routine, it is best discussed with your surgeon prior to surgery as everyone's recovery is unique. Keep in mind that you will be having major abdominal surgery and the recovery can sometimes be lengthy and difficult, and you can expect small setbacks along the way. Make sure your surgeon provides you with a diet plan to follow prior to surgery. Again, keeping in mind that everyone's recovery is unique, I didn't feel much better until 6 months post-surgery, and the "new" me around 1 year. Make sure you have a prescription for anti-nausea medication, that's something that most people need.
