I am new and have been trying for three months to figure out what is wrong with me. I first started symptoms in December of this year. My symptoms at that time were chest pain in the upper left side, extreme fatigue and back pain in the upper left side. I went to the emergency room. They ruled out heart with an EKG. They gave me vicotin and told me I had muscle spasms. I went to the dr. the next week, who siad I had costrochondritis. The pain had spread up through my jaw and in my left arm. I did not have that condition, b/c the medecine did not help. I started seeing a chiropractor, who was trying to treat me for teh muscle spasms. The pain had now spread through the center of my chest and up through my neck. I also started to experience some minor heartburn and difficulty swallowing. I thought these symptoms were unrelated. At present, all these pains are still here after several visits to my dr. and chiropractor. My pulse has been fast and pounding, the pain has now spread underneath the left rib and I am beyond frustrated. I am a music teacher and singing has become quite painful. I have a dull sore throat at times. The swallowing problem is that I chew my food and it seems ready to be swallowed, but the mechanism isn't "ready". The food is just sitting at the back of my throat. I take a few breaths through my nose and I finally force myself to swallow. But, have had to spit out the food at times as well. This does not happen every time I eat, moreso at night. My chiropractor has acknowledged that what he is doing does not seem to be helping and that I need to get in to see my doctor again. He mentioned the possibility of GERD and Hiatal Hernia. All my dr.'s are quite sure this is not a heart condition. I, of course, get nervous just b/c of what the symptoms are. I've read some posts that complain of similar symptoms. Does this sound like it could be GERD? Is there any relief for me if it is? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm sorry you've been hurting and not getting relief.

The ER is only there to either admit a patient to the hosptial or to stabilize a patient for discharge, not to diagnose, so anytime you have to go there be sure to follow up with your doctor.

It does sound like something gastroenteric. I hope you will make an appointment with a gastroenterologist soon. It could be many things, including GERD, Hiatus Hernia, Pancreas disorder,  Gastritis, Esophagus disorders, and a host of other GI diagnoses.

You deserve to feel better. I hope you'll make an appointment soon! Please let us know how you are doing.

I'll be thinking of you!
