Does anyone else experience voice loss because of reflux? The pills I take stop most of my symptoms but not this.
Are there any other singers out there?

Rachl:

I'm so sorry you are having trouble with your voice.  I'm also a singer and have been troubled with hoarseness for the past three years, ever since a very bad flu/bronchitis.  I've been on PPIs for the past year, and my doctor thinks my throat troubles are due to reflux.  If so, the PPIs aren't helping much.  I've had to quit my choir, as well as any solo performances.

However, I've embarked on a low-carb diet (25 g or less) as a result of reading Dr. Norm's book, and at the same time am trying to get off the PPIs.  I have high hopes for the diet, as I feel ever so much better, and the burning throat symptoms are subsiding.  I've read that it takes a long time for the throat to heal. I'm thinking yours should recover fairly quickly because you're young and are nipping this in the bud.

I'm also trying alternative remedies, by the way -- eating and gargling with turmeric, gargling with salt water, etc.  If you Google singers and hoarseness you might find some useful information.

Hope you recover soon and can get back to the work you love.
