My symptoms aren't exactly the same but I definitely feel like I may choke when I'm not feeling well. Is that tightness in the throat? I'm not sure. I feel pain and tingling in my chest, etc. I don't really feel like I can't breathe, but there is some tightness. I have asthma so perhaps I don't identify it that way in comparison. There has been a few times where I did actually feel shortness of breath.

I changed my diet and reduced my consumption of bread, pizza (which I love), and a variety of "bad carbs". I am still eating carbs such as fruits, oatmeal, etc. My diet is closer to the South Beach Diet Phase 2. Low carb wraps instead of bread. No sugar ice cream or no sugar added ice pops when I have to have something sweet. I also (try) to eat less. I've discovered I'm feeling better. I occasionally cheat and sometimes I pay for it, sometimes not. Sometimes I have symptoms for no reason that I can tell. But the symptoms are a LOT less frequent and less uncomfortable than they were last fall.

I have learned if I cheat just a little than I'm ok. For example, one slice of pizza. But if I have two, or I've cheated the prior meal, than I suffer.

I did go to the doctor to talk about whether this diet was ok for me. You should do the same. The doctor also did a couple of blood tests to see if I had a few different food allergies. I didn't. It's a good idea to check.

Good luck.

Yes, the same thing happens to me. But it's very intermittantly, and I'm never sure why it hits. I think it's usually after I've mistreated my GI tract for a few months. In another post, I tell of the time when I had to sleep upright in a chair for 7 months, because of this sensation. My upper chest and neck felt sooooo full, that I felt like I couldn't breath. the only thing I can think of, is that maybe I had so much bloating, that it pressed on my vessels, so that maybe things got congested in my upper body.
There were even times when I felt like my stomach and diaphragm were actually constracting. I could feel it tighten up.
So......you're not alone. Sometimes I wonder if there is a malfunction of our nervous systems that affect our GI tracts. During these times, I take alot of Gas X, which helps a little bit. But what helps the most is to really reduce the amount of food I'm eating. Sometimes, I even have to almost fast for a few days to get it under control......then start back eating very small amounts. And I think carbs do make it worse. I do think it is one of the possible symptoms of GERD. Good luck to you!
