I am new to all of this.  My brother was diagnosed with esophagus cancer, so I asked for a scope, since I had reflux, too.  They found Barrett's, and put me on 80 mg of nexium per day.  It has cut the reflux completely, but all of a sudden I seem to have difficulty swallowing, and I feel like food gets caught in my throat, up near the top.  I feel all the time like I have a lump in my throat as well.  I never had a problem with this until I went on the nexium.  Any idea if this is a side effect?  It is driving me crazy.  My dr plans another scope, but it won't be for a while and this is alarming me.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Coppermom,

The symptoms that you are describing are not of the medication - but of the condition. A great resource is the following:

hope this helps!

I NEVER had a symptom like this until I started on the Nexium. I only had the scope because my brother was diagnosed with EC. I had reflux, at night only, but no choking during the day. This is why I think it might be the Nexium. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Hi Coppermom

I am so sorry about your brother. Do you mind me asking how old he is and what is his prognosis.

Thanks

Scooby
